Arches of Resurgence brings together elements that symbolize the history, character, and vision of the Strawberry Mansion community. This sculpture pays homage to the natural environment of Fairmount Park while providing a new visual icon for the surrounding neighborhood landscape. Etched into the span of the arch is a quote from noted Strawberry Mansion resident and musical great John Coltrane. --"Look back at the old things and see them in a new light." This speaks to the aspirations of the community to honor their past while building for the future. Crafted from hand made bricks, the lower sections of the three legged arch represent the growth of a tree. The sunburst of glazed bricks in the upper section were shaped by young members of the community and symbolizes a glowing future for Strawberry Mansion.
