2018 Independence Day Service Information

On Independence Day (Wednesday, July 4th), SEPTA Buses, Trolleys, and the Broad Street and Market Frankford Lines and Regional Rail Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule, with special late night Regional Rail service following the fireworks on the Ben Franklin Parkway (see schedule below).

Below, we've included the information you need to help get you to and from all of this year's main events along with tips and helpful links to other areas of the website.

TIP: Customers should check System Status before and during Independence Day events for real-time service information across the SEPTA System. The System Status tool is available on the website and on the official SEPTA app for iPhone and Android devices. You can also follow @SEPTA on Twitter.

Freedom Festival Fireworks

  • Location: Delaware River Waterfront
  • Date, Time: July 4, 2018, 9:30 p.m.

Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert & Fireworks

  • Location: Benjamin Franklin Parkway
  • Date, Time: July 4, 2018, 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Late Night Regional Rail Service & Extended Ticket Office Hours

Select Regional Rail trains will be added to the service schedule or held later than regularly scheduled for customers leaving Center City Philadelphia after the fireworks and concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway.

Late night trains will serve Airport Terminals, Chestnut Hill East, Chestnut Hill West, Doylestown, Fox Chase, Malvern, Media/Elwyn, Marcus Hook, Trenton, Warminster, and West Trenton Stations. Extended Center City Ticket Office Hours for Wednesday, July 4, 2018:

30th Street Station 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Suburban Station 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Jefferson Station 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m.

Event Detours:

The SEPTA Bus Routes noted below will operate on a temporary detour before, during, and immediately following the concert and fireworks on the Parkway:

  • Location: Ben Franklin Parkway - 20th St. to the Museum of Art, 17th through 23rd Sts., north and south through the Parkway

  • Time: Scheduled to begin at 5:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 4 - 1:00 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2018

  • Routes: 7, 32, 33, 38, 43, and 48

Detour routing will be published prior to the event. Customers should check TransitView for real-time detour information before and during the event.

Broad Street & Market-Frankford Line Service

Additional Broad Street and Market Frankford Line Trains will be placed into service before the events on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Details will be posted on the Broad Street Line Sports Express page.

Please note: Because trains will operate on a Sunday schedule, all night train service will be available Tuesday evening, July 3rd into early Wednesday morning, July 4th. Trains will operate on a regular Sunday schedule the entire service day July 4th.

Travel Tips

  • Check your schedule Wednesday, July 4 as Buses, Trains, and Trolleys will operate on a Sunday schedule due to the holiday.

  • The Ben Franklin Parkway is best accessed from the 15th Street Market-Frankford Line Station and Race-Vine or City Hall Broad Street Line Station
