REMINDER
Time is Running Out to Use a Medicare or Railroad Retirement Identification Card for Senior Citizen/Reduced Fare Travel

With the July 2017 fare increase, SEPTA announced that Medicare Cards and Railroad Retirement Identification Cards would continue to be valid forms of identification for Senior Citizen and Riders with Disabilities through the end of 2017. We realize the end of the year is busy and you may not have time to apply for your new SEPTA Key Card, so we are extending the deadline when these Cards can be used by Senior and Reduced Fare customers.

Beginning Tuesday, January 16, 2018 the Medicare Card and Railroad Retirement Cards will no longer be accepted for travel on any SEPTA service. The following are the forms of identification that will be accepted:

Senior Citizen
(65 years old or older - Free Travel on Transit/Applicable Fare on Regional Rail)

  • SEPTA Key Senior Fare Card
  • Valid PA Driver License/Non-Driver ID with magnetic strip on back*
  • PA Senior Citizen Transit Identification Card

*PA Driver Licenses/Non-Driver ID's issued after July 2017 no longer have a magnetic strip on the back of the Card. These Cards cannot be tapped at the Validator or swiped through the Farebox/Turnstile reader.

Riders with Disabilities
(Applicable Reduced Fare on Transit/Regional Rail)

  • SEPTA Key Reduced Fare Card
  • PA Reduced Transit Fare Identification Card
