We've enhanced the messaging on the SEPTA Key Validators to help you better manage your Key Card while riding the system. Now, if your Card is declined when you tap at the Validator, you will see a message that tells you why. Here are what the messages look like, and what they mean:

LOW
BALANCE / NO FARE PRODUCT
Your Key Card was declined because you either don't have enough
money in your Travel Wallet or you don't have a valid SEPTA Pass on the Card
PASSBACK
CARD ALREADY USED
Your Key Card wasn't accepted because it was just used. Please remember your Key Card can only be tapped once for each trip
UNKNOWN
CARD
The Validator does not recognize the card you are trying to tap. Be sure that the card you are using is a SEPTA Key Card
EXPIRED
CARD
Your Key Card has expired. Please check the date on the front of the Card
INVALID
CARD
Your Key Card wasn't accepted because it was reported lost or stolen
CARD NOT
READ-TRY AGAIN
If you see this message, the Validator could not read your card properly. Try tapping it again

If you receive any of these messages, please pay your fare for the ride and then check your Key Card.

For Low Balance/No Fare Product - you can reload your Card at a Station Fare Kiosk, SEPTA Sales Office, or online at septakey.org
