COMPLETED: Crum Creek Viaduct Replacement Project

The Crum Creek Viaduct replacement project was completed in Fall 2016. In addition to rebuilding this 100-foot high bridge, the project also included landscaping and site restoration work. The Crum Creek Viaduct was constructed originally in 1895, with repair work completed in 1983. It sits along the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line between Swarthmore and Morton Stations. More.

UPDATE: Exton Station & Inter-Modal Improvements

New February 2017 photos: As part of the next phase of construction, SEPTA forces will be on-site to begin building the new inbound (towards Center City) platform while a SEPTA contractor begins work on rebuilding the ramps and stairs to Walkertown Rd. More

UPDATE: Suburban Station Customer Amenities

New public restrooms (part of Phase 1 of this project) are now in full operation and open, which has allowed crews to move on to Phase 2, the renovation of the existing public restrooms. More

UPDATE: Villanova Station Improvements

New February 2017 photos: This current phase of the project includes the construction of the new tunnel and ADA compliant ramps and stair system. Currently, crews are installing the support for the excavation system. This phase of the project is expected to be completed in October 2017. More

New February 2017 photos: Construction includes a full renovation of the existing bus loop and the installation of a new passenger shelter, upgraded lighting, and new paving. More

UPDATE: City Hall and 15th St. Stations:

Structural repairs at four locations are ongoing; Market St. to Broad St. and South Broad to the oculus are currently barricaded. Installation of new signage for the July Democratic National Convention was completed. More

About the Rebuilding the System Program:

Create - Reinvest - Rebuild

When SEPTA was created in 1964, the first task was to take the resources of bankrupt private companies, including assets built in the nineteenth century, and shape them into a transit network to meet the travel needs of southeastern Pennsylvania. Half a century later, the system is a blend of legacy and modern stations, vehicles, and infrastructure critical to the economy of the region. Maintaining and improving the system has always been a priority and even in the face of funding challenges, the Authority has made progress renewing assets including rebuilding the Market-Frankford Line, introducing new Silverliner V rail cars, rehabilitating stations, introducing new technologies, and investing in major infrastructure and maintenance facility upgrades to preserve and enhance safety on the system.

In late 2013, Harrisburg took bold action with the passage of Pennsylvania Act 89, which creates, for the first time, a long term funding solution for critical highway and transit infrastructure needs across the Commonwealth. Taking a business approach to managing its asset portfolio, SEPTA will rehabilitate or replace bridges, replace critical power systems, and design and procure new vehicles.

These projects will also create new business and contract opportunities throughout Pennsylvania. This places SEPTA in a strong position to reinvest in and rebuild the system to provide safe, reliable service, while enhancing the travel experience for current and future customers.
